Two Doors(2012)

Two Doors is a documentary about the Yongsan Tragedy of 2009, when five evictees and one police SWAT officer died during a confrontation in Seoul. Facing forced eviction, residents built a steel watchtower as a desperate protest against displacement. After 25 hours, the standoff ended in tragedy, leaving the surviving evictees branded as criminals. The government blamed the protesters for illegal demonstrations and use of firebombs, while critics argued that excessive police force transformed a housing rights dispute into a deadly crackdown. The film examines this pivotal moment in South Korean social history, exploring competing narratives around state power, poverty, and the human cost of urban development.
