Rooted

Rooted is a food justice documentary following activist and urban farmer Germaine Jenkins as she challenges Charleston, South Carolina's entrenched power structures to combat decades of toxic food harm in her community. Jenkins operates an oasis within a food desert, fighting what she frames as food apartheid—a civil rights frontier. The film asks whether her efforts can survive institutional resistance and create lasting change, or whether they'll become another casualty in the battle for equitable food access. Through Jenkins's work, Rooted examines how systemic inequality shapes what communities eat and who profits from that inequality.
