Aus dem Leben follows Sabine Schuster, a primary school teacher whose life changes instantly when she suffers a stroke during a theatre rehearsal with her pupils. Doctors save her life, but recovery proves grueling and uncertain. While Sabine struggles to relearn basic skills—speaking, walking—in rehabilitation, her husband Stefan, a forester, renovates their home in Ilmenau, Thuringia, hoping familiar surroundings will aid her healing. Sabine's shame and despair lead her to resist help and withdraw from her community, grieving the loss of her teaching career and outdoor life. When Stefan hires Iryna, an optimistic and no-nonsense nurse, she becomes an unexpected catalyst for change. The film traces one family's raw journey through disability, adaptation, and the slow, difficult path toward acceptance and renewed purpose.
