Hell in Tangier

Tangier is a drama based on true events from 1996, when Belgian bus drivers Marcel Van Loock and Wim Moreels are arrested in Morocco and charged with drug trafficking after 700 pounds of hashish is discovered hidden in their vehicle. Despite evidence proving their innocence, a Moroccan judge sentences both men to five years in the notorious Tangiers prison. The film follows their brutal struggle to survive in a facility plagued by corruption, violence, and neglect—where guards, lawyers, and judges exploit inmates while their families back home receive no support or answers. As the men endure beatings, starvation, and disease, they discover that their own government has abandoned them. Tangier exposes the devastating consequences of injustice and institutional indifference on both prisoners and their loved ones.
