Ice Poison(2014)

Ice Poison is a Burmese drama about survival and moral compromise in rural Myanmar. A young farmer and his struggling father scrape by on meager corn harvests in the mountains, then descend to the village seeking loans from relatives working in jade mines and opium plantations. Corruption and missing paperwork leave them destitute. Desperate, the father pawns his cow for a moped so his son can work as a taxi driver. His first passenger is Sanmei, a woman returning from China to bury her grandfather and escape an arranged marriage. She decides to stay and build a new life in her homeland, but when she takes a job as a drug runner, she draws the young driver into her dangerous world. The film traces how poverty and circumstance push ordinary people toward illegal choices.
