Charles Mingus: Epitaph is a documentary film capturing the world-premiere performance of jazz composer Charles Mingus's monumental two-hour composition, conducted by Gunther Schuller. Recorded at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on June 3, 1989, the concert features thirty accomplished musicians including trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, saxophonist Bobby Watson, and trombonist Urbie Green. The ambitious orchestral work remained unknown until after Mingus's death in 1979, when it was discovered among his archives.
