Die Freischwimmerin(2014)

Die Freischwimmerin is a German-language film following Martha Müller, a teacher who retreats from her profession after a traumatic incident. When she takes a position at a Vienna school, she encounters Ilayda, a 17-year-old Turkish student whose decision to wear a headscarf following her father's death sets her apart from her peers. Though Ilayda comes from a well-integrated family, her choice creates tension within the classroom. The film explores themes of identity, belonging, and the clash between personal conviction and social conformity, as Martha navigates her own disillusionment while confronting the complexities of her student's struggle.
