She Stood Alone is a historical drama about Prudence Crandall, a Connecticut schoolteacher who opens a girls' academy in the 1830s. When she admits Eliza Harris, a Black student, the town turns hostile and withdraws their daughters from the school. Rather than capitulate, Crandall transforms the institution into a school exclusively for Black girls, with support from abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison and The Liberator newspaper. The film chronicles her courageous stand against entrenched racism and her commitment to education as an act of resistance during America's pre-Civil War era.
