Harmony Without the Law(2008)

Harmony Without the Law is a drama set in Central Java that follows Cyntia, an American NGO worker studying the Samin community in the region between Pati and Blora. Her research into this unique indigenous group unfolds against an unexpected backdrop when two escaped convicts from Blora prison seek refuge in the same village. The film explores the collision between Cyntia's academic mission and the dangerous presence of the fugitives, examining how the tight-knit Samin community responds to outsiders—both the well-intentioned researcher and the criminals on the run. Tensions rise as hidden agendas and cultural misunderstandings threaten the village's fragile peace, forcing Cyntia to navigate between her professional obligations and the moral complexities of her surroundings.
