Jean de Florette is a French drama about greed and rural desperation. An old farmer and his nephew covet their neighbor's land for its precious spring water, essential to their flower business. When a hunchbacked outsider inherits the property and moves in with his family, they sabotage the spring and watch coldly as he struggles to irrigate his crops from distant wells through a brutal summer. His health deteriorates, his wife and daughter suffer, yet the two men remain unmoved, consumed by their desire for the water and the land. Set in Provence during the 1920s, the film explores how ambition and cruelty can destroy lives, building toward an inevitable tragedy that reveals the true cost of their ruthlessness.
