My Queen Karo(2009)
A young girl witnesses the moral dilemmas of free love when her parents join a squatter community in 1970s Amsterdam.
My Queen Karo is a Dutch film set in 1970s Amsterdam, following nine-year-old Karo as she navigates life in a commune where her parents live. Surrounded by idealistic adults who share everything, Karo initially enjoys a carefree childhood within this utopian experiment. But as internal tensions emerge and some residents struggle to uphold the group's principles, her innocent worldview begins to fracture. Through Karo's eyes, the film captures how personal conflicts and broken promises gradually shatter the commune's utopian vision, teaching her a harsh lesson about impermanence and the gap between ideals and reality.
