The Man of the Political Economy is a biographical drama following Matsunaga Yasuzaemon, a visionary industrialist known as the "Electricity Monster." Set during Japan's post-war recovery and period of rapid economic growth, the film chronicles his relentless campaign to break up and privatize the nation's electricity monopoly. Inspired by the philosophy of Fukuzawa Yukichi, Matsunaga championed independence and self-determination as he rebuilt from the ashes of defeat. A stubborn, unconventional man in his seventies, he waged a solitary battle against entrenched interests with unwavering determination. Though admired by Trade Minister Ikeda Hayato and respected by Prime Ministers Yoshida Shigeru and Konoe Fumimaro, Matsunaga's fierce passion and enigmatic drive commanded awe from all who encountered him.
