The Boulugres(1983)
The Boulugres follows Herbert, an idealistic teenager determined to become a doctor and help humanity, despite his parents' demands that he pursue wealth as an aviator. He abandons his privileged life to study medicine under a wise elder among the Boulugres, a remote tribe afflicted by a grotesque fungal growth on the men's heads. Herbert develops a vaccine and commits to distributing it freely, but clashes with Chousk, a ruthless pharmaceutical magnate intent on profiting from the cure. His noble mission crumbles when the Boulugres refuse vaccination, gripped by a paralyzing fear of needles. Disillusioned by the gap between his ideals and reality, Herbert finds solace in romance with a Yugoslav airline stewardess, abandoning his crusade for personal connection.
