The Stenographer
The Stenographer(1914)
The Stenographer is a silent drama about Gertrude Sawyer, a stenographer struggling to support herself and her ailing sister on meager wages. Desperate to afford seaside treatment that might restore her sister's health, Gertrude finds her modest income perpetually insufficient. Her employer, Charles Hardin, sees an opportunity in her desperation. Locked in fierce competition with business rival Joe Elbert, Hardin manipulates Gertrude into leaving his company and taking a position with Elbert instead—a calculated move to plant her as a spy within his competitor's office. Caught between loyalty and survival, Gertrude becomes an unwitting pawn in a ruthless corporate battle, forced to choose between her sister's welfare and her own conscience.
