The Horror Night(1988)

The Horror Night is a period thriller set in the pre-liberation southwestern borderlands. Two undercover police spies, Qi Yuanjing and Zhou Luo, pose as merchants to infiltrate a bandit operation. Their investigation leads them to the remote Purple Cloud Taoist Temple as darkness falls. There, the temple's master, Shou Jing, welcomes them inside—but Qi's sharp eye catches troubling inconsistencies. Soon the men encounter terrifying apparitions in the temple's attic. According to local legend, a brutal war ravaged the site two centuries earlier, and whenever rain falls, the restless dead emerge to wander the grounds. As supernatural horror collides with espionage, the spies must uncover the temple's dark secrets before they become the ghosts' next victims.
