Lotus(1987)

Lotus is a drama set in early 20th-century China that explores the clash between tradition and progress through one woman's defiance. Lotus, whose own feet were bound in childhood, faces pressure from her strict mother-in-law to bind her daughter Joy's feet—a practice meant to secure her future through marriage. For the first time, Lotus questions the custom she has always accepted. Encouraged by Coral, a free-spirited performer in a traveling Cantonese opera troupe who openly rejects the outlawed tradition, Lotus chooses a different path.
