Checkpoint(2013)
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Checkpoint follows Yaniv Greenblatt, a nineteen-year-old Israeli soldier assigned to a volatile West Bank checkpoint. Caught between his pacifist ideals and the demands of his superiors, Yaniv struggles to treat Palestinians fairly while maintaining military discipline. His personal life offers no respite. His mother, paralyzed and hardened by a terrorist attack that killed his father, holds uncompromising right-wing views. Yaniv's relationship with his younger brother Avi, who attends one of Israel's rare mixed Jewish-Arab schools, becomes increasingly strained. The film builds toward a pivotal incident at the checkpoint that forces everyone involved to question their convictions and allegiances. This Israeli drama examines the human cost of occupation through the eyes of a young man trapped between duty, family loyalty, and conscience.
