Hidden Contamination is a documentary about the aftermath of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. While the 20 km evacuation zone around the power plant was cleared immediately, the village of Itate—just beyond its borders—was left unmonitored for over a month before being declared a restricted area. Residents were forced to abandon their homes permanently. As Itate became a ghost town, hundreds of animals remained trapped: an estimated 150–200 dogs, 400–800 cats, dozens of chickens, and a pig. Public attention to the catastrophe faded, but one man refused to forget the stranded creatures. The film follows his efforts to care for the animals left behind in this contaminated landscape, exploring both the human cost of nuclear disaster and the overlooked victims of evacuation.
