LISE(2022)

LISE is a hybrid concert film featuring Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen performing three iconic roles from Richard Strauss operas with the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra under conductor Edward Gardner. Davidsen embodies the Marschallin from Der Rosenkavalier, Arabella, and Ariadne—three women at different life stages, all grappling with identity and self-discovery. The mature Marschallin reflects on her lost youth, young Arabella searches for her true desires, and Ariadne seeks transformation through loss. Strauss, celebrated for his luminous soprano writing, crafted these roles as profound meditations on womanhood, aging, and longing. The film captures the emotional depth of these characters while showcasing Davidsen's vocal artistry in an intimate, cinematic setting that blends operatic performance with visual storytelling.
