Mossane(1996)

Mossane is a Senegalese coming-of-age film about a 14-year-old girl navigating conflicting desires in her village. Beautiful and of marriageable age, she has fallen for a poor student home from university during a strike. Yet her parents have already promised her to Diogoye, a man working in France who has long supported the family and now demands she marry him in absentia before joining him abroad. Caught between love and obligation, between her own heart and her family's survival, Mossane faces an impossible choice that will determine her future. The film explores tradition, economic hardship, and a young woman's agency in a society where her voice carries little weight.
