Tricky Memory is a documentary that explores how unreliable our memories truly are. Recent neuroscience research reveals that the act of remembering actually changes what we remember—false memories form easily, details distort, and our brains fill gaps without our knowledge. The film examines the everyday consequences of these flaws: mistaken eyewitness accounts, false confessions, and the unreliability of personal testimony in court. More unsettling still, scientists have demonstrated the ability to artificially create, delete, or manipulate memories in laboratory settings. Through interviews and experiments, Tricky Memory questions how much we can trust our own minds and challenges the assumption that memory is a reliable record of what actually happened.
