The Nagasaki Crime Chronicles(1975)

The Nagasaki Crime Chronicles is a period drama set in late Edo-era Nagasaki. Hiramatsu assumes the role of Nagasaki bugyō, the city's chief administrator, earning a reputation as a corrupt official who drinks heavily, chases women, and accepts bribes from criminals. Yet beneath this carefully crafted facade lies a ruthless vigilante. Hiramatsu feigns incompetence to lull villains into a false sense of security, then executes those who slip through the cracks of the justice system. The series explores the tension between his public persona and his hidden mission to eliminate the criminals the law cannot touch.
