Le Grand Échiquier is a French variety television series that premiered in 1972 under the creative direction of Jacques Chancel. The program became a fixture of French broadcasting, moving across multiple networks over nearly two decades—from ORTF's first and second channels to Antenne 2, where it built a devoted audience from 1975 through 1989. The show showcased music, performance, and entertainment in Chancel's distinctive style. After a lengthy absence, Le Grand Échiquier returned to French television in 2018 on France 2, now hosted by Anne-Sophie Lapix, introducing the classic format to a new generation of viewers.
