Lookwell(1991)
Lookwell is a 1991 television pilot starring Adam West as a washed-up actor convinced he's a detective. Written and produced by Conan O'Brien and Robert Smigel, the comedy follows West's delusional protagonist as he stumbles through real investigations while clinging to his faded Hollywood glory. NBC aired the pilot in July 1991, and though network chairman Brandon Tartikoff called it a personal favorite, the network declined to order a series. The show's blend of absurdist humor and West's deadpan delivery showcased the comedic sensibilities that would later define O'Brien's late-night work, with Smigel becoming a key creative force in that arena. Despite its cult appeal, Lookwell remained a one-off curiosity in television history.
