Bad Apples is a Finnish series set in a 1970s sanatorium where student activist Onerva enters an experimental psychiatric program for women. Caught between institutional control and her own convictions, Onerva navigates the murky ethics of treatment and confinement. The series explores themes of autonomy, medical authority, and resistance as she encounters other patients and staff within the sanatorium's walls. Set against the backdrop of the era's shifting attitudes toward mental health and women's rights, Bad Apples examines how power operates in closed institutions and the cost of challenging the system from within.
