A Samurai's Sorrow(1984)

A Samurai's Sorrow is a Japanese period drama that aired in prime time during 1984, adapted from the manga by Goseki Kojima and Kazuo Koike. Kainage Mondo is a secret son of Tokugawa Yoshimune and a skilled swordsman tasked with testing the shogun's food for poison. When Mondo learns of assassination plots against Yoshimune, he returns to Edo to protect him. The Owari clan, desperate to seize the shogunate, orchestrates multiple murder attempts. Fuki, a kunoichi from Kōka, initially infiltrates Yoshimune's circle as an assassin but grows close to Mondo and switches allegiances. Together, they defend the shogun against relentless enemies determined to topple his rule and claim power for themselves.
