On the Way to Hope(2021)

On the Way to Hope is a Chinese drama series that follows Zhang Nan, a master's degree holder forced to return to his rural hometown when his mother is diagnosed with cancer. Years earlier, his mother's imprisonment over a village water dispute had driven him to escape to Shanghai. Now serving as team leader in Baiguo village, Zhang Nan embarks on three years of poverty alleviation work. As he navigates the challenges of rural development alongside his girlfriend, he gradually reconciles with his traumatic past and discovers unexpected meaning in lifting his community out of poverty. The series explores themes of family redemption, sacrifice, and finding purpose through service to others.
