The Barrier Squad(2009)

Zagradotryad is a Soviet war series following a military detachment tasked with holding the line against relentless German attacks. As the soldiers fight to repel wave after wave of assault, they discover an orphanage stranded and dying behind enemy lines. Torn between their duty to defend the front and the desperate need to save the children, the detachment makes an impossible choice. One by one, the soldiers sacrifice themselves—detonating mines to clear safe passage, buying time with their lives—so the orphans might escape. The series captures the brutal cost of war and the humanity that persists even in its darkest moments, as ordinary men become heroes through acts of selfless courage.
