Producer Betty Corday, who also created the later hit Days of our Lives, developed the show across multiple platforms. The radio serial debuted on NBC's Blue Network in November 1939 before moving to CBS in 1940, where it ran for two decades as a daily 15-minute program. Initially sponsored by General Foods and Post Cereals, the show later came under Procter & Gamble sponsorship.
