Conflict(1956)

Conflict is a 1956 ABC anthology series that followed Warner Brothers Presents in the Tuesday 7:30pm slot. Unlike its predecessor's wheel format, Conflict presented standalone dramatic stories, though it alternated weeks with Cheyenne to maintain consistent programming. The series is best remembered for launching the pilots of 77 Sunset Strip and Maverick, both of which became successful shows. ABC executives renamed the program from Warner Brothers Presents, believing "conflict" was the narrative ingredient missing from earlier episodes like Casablanca and King's Row. The show bridged the gap between spring 1956 and the 1957 season, when Sugarfoot took over the time slot. Conflict exemplified Warner Bros.' television strategy of developing new series through anthology programming.
