Snapphanar(2006)

Snapphanar is a Swedish historical miniseries that aired in three parts on Sveriges Television during Christmas 2006. Directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, it dramatizes the Snapphane peasant rebellion, a covert movement that fought against Swedish rule in 17th-century Scania between 1660 and 1700, secretly supporting Denmark. The series follows these rebels as they resist occupation through underground resistance. Historians have criticized Snapphanar for historical inaccuracies, particularly its portrayal of Scanian nationalism—an attitude that didn't exist during the period—and its use of "snapphane" as a term of self-identification, when it was actually a Swedish slur. Despite these concerns, the miniseries offers a dramatic take on a pivotal moment in regional history, blending political intrigue with the personal costs of rebellion.
