Style & Substance(1998)

Style & Substance is a sitcom that premiered on CBS in July 1998, starring Jean Smart as Chelsea Stevens, a Martha Stewart-like host of a home-and-lifestyle show, and Nancy McKeon as Jane Sokol, her producer and a small-town transplant navigating New York City. Chelsea is a skilled cook, decorator, and party planner obsessed with thread counts and aesthetic perfection, but her narcissism consistently undermines her relationships and her ability to genuinely connect with others. Well-meaning in theory, she remains too self-absorbed to truly understand anyone else's problems. The comedy mines the clash between Chelsea's polished public persona and her messy personal life, as well as the dynamic between her and Jane, who grounds the show with a more grounded perspective from outside the Manhattan elite.
