CD:UK(1998)

CD:UK was a British music television series that premiered on ITV on 29 August 1998, replacing The Chart Show after nine and a half years on air. Unlike its predecessor, which only broadcast music videos, CD:UK aired live on Saturday mornings with a studio audience, featuring live performances, celebrity interviews and competitions. The show introduced the Saturday Chart, an unofficial countdown that typically revealed chart positions a day before Radio 1's official announcement, making the BBC's Top of the Pops seem dated by comparison. CD:UK later added an interactive viewer-voted chart called the MiTracks Countdown. Sponsored by Tizer from 1999 to 2004, the series drew controversy in 2002 over "raunchy" performances in a children's time slot, particularly Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty." The network responded by launching CD:UK Hotshots in January 2003, an overnight spin-off featuring videos deemed unsuitable for daytime broadcast.
