Victoria's Empire(2007)

Victoria's Empire is a three-part British travel documentary series that aired on BBC One in 2007, presented by comedian and actress Victoria Wood. Wood journeys across nine countries to explore the lasting cultural and historical impact of British imperial rule on colonised territories. The series takes its title from Wood herself, who was named after Queen Victoria, and focuses on places that bear the monarch's name. Wood visits Calcutta, Hong Kong, and Borneo in the first programme, then Ghana, Jamaica, and Newfoundland in the second, before concluding in New Zealand, Australia, Zambia, and the Victoria Falls. Throughout her travels, Wood examines how British colonial presence shaped local customs, societies, and identities, offering a personal perspective on empire's complex legacy across the globe.
