Not Forgotten
Not Forgotten(2005)
Not Forgotten is a British documentary series presented by Ian Hislop that explores how the First World War reshaped British society. Made by Wall to Wall for Channel 4, the series examines the war's lasting legacy across four core episodes broadcast in late 2005: Commemoration traces the rise of war memorials and remembrance traditions; Class investigates how mass conscription challenged the British class hierarchy; Women charts the transformation of women's roles and social expectations; and Survivors looks at how society supported the wounded and disabled who returned home. Three additional episodes followed, including Shot at Dawn, which documents men executed for desertion and cowardice, and The Men Who Wouldn't Fight, which reclaims the stories of conscientious objectors and challenges the stigma they faced. The series' accompanying website earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Interactivity in 2006, while a tie-in book by Neil Oliver was published by Hodder & Stoughton.
