Peacemaker Kurogane(2003)

Peacemaker Kurogane is an anime series following 15-year-old Tetsunosuke Ichimura, a boy consumed by revenge after his parents are murdered by Choshu rebels. Desperate to join the Shinsengumi—an elite swordsman unit protecting Kyoto during Japan's turbulent Bakumatsu period—Tetsu believes he'll find justice within their ranks. But as he witnesses the group's own brutal methods, his black-and-white worldview shatters. Caught between the Shinsengumi's ruthless warfare and his father's pacifist ideals, Tetsu faces an impossible choice: surrender his humanity to become a weapon of vengeance, or abandon his hatred and forge a different path. The series explores whether revenge truly heals, or merely perpetuates cycles of violence.
