TUGS is a British children's series that debuted in 1988 from the creators of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. Set in the Roaring Twenties at the bustling Bigg City Port, the show follows two rival fleets of anthropomorphic tugboats—the Star Fleet and the Z-Stacks—as they navigate competitive adventures on the water. With music by Junior Campbell and Mike O'Donnell, TUGS captures the charm and character-driven storytelling that defined its sister series. The show ran for just 13 episodes before production ceased due to the bankruptcy of TVS, the original production company. Though brief, TUGS left a lasting legacy; its sets and models were later repurposed for Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, cementing its place in British children's television history.
