Gorky 53(2024)

Gorky 53 is a Soviet drama set in 1953, when mass amnesties flood the USSR with released convicts and crime surges across the nation. Ivan Astafyev, a former reconnaissance platoon commander, returns to his hometown hoping for a fresh start. Within days, bandits attack him—and he's falsely accused of brutality in self-defense. Captain Shvedov, an old acquaintance, intervenes and secures Ivan a position training police officers in hand-to-hand combat at a local sports society. As Ivan rebuilds his life, he must navigate suspicion, redemption, and the moral complexities of post-war Soviet society.
