Sitting Pretty(1992)
Sitting Pretty is a 1992 BBC sitcom that follows a woman left penniless after her millionaire husband's sudden death. Unable to inherit his fortune, she's forced to abandon her comfortable life and return to her parents' farm, where she must navigate the chaos of living with her family once again. Written by John Sullivan and starring Diane Bull alongside David Ashford and John Cater, the series marked Sullivan's first sitcom to centre on a female protagonist since Just Good Friends. Directed by Susan Belbin and Angela De Chastelai Smith, Sitting Pretty explores the comic misfortunes of a woman stripped of wealth and independence, struggling to adapt to rural family life. Though the premise showed promise, the series is largely remembered as Sullivan's first significant creative misstep.
