The Spanish Farm(1968)

The Spanish Farm is a four-part BBC drama set in French Flanders during the First World War. Madeleine Vanderlynden, a Flemish peasant woman, runs her farm near the Front while British troops are billeted on her land. Before the war, she had an affair with Georges D'Archeville, son of the local baron who owns her property. As the conflict rages around her, Madeleine becomes determined to find Georges and discover what has become of him. The series explores how ordinary lives are upended by war, following Madeleine's struggle to maintain her farm and her desperate search for the man she loved amid the chaos and danger of the trenches.
