Just Our Luck(1983)
Just Our Luck is an American sitcom that aired on ABC in fall 1983. Created by brothers Lawrence and Charles Gordon as a modernized take on I Dream of Jeannie, the series follows Richard Gilliland as a mild-mannered TV weatherman who frees T. K. Carter's hip, 3,000-year-old genie from a bottle where he'd been trapped for nearly two centuries. Produced by Lorimar Productions and positioned alongside Webster as one of ABC's ambitious new comedies, Just Our Luck was designed to compete with NBC's The A-Team. The show drew low ratings and poor critical reception. It also faced controversy when the NAACP objected to negative stereotypes of African-Americans, leading to negotiations that resulted in script changes, black staff writers, and the addition of Leonard Simon to the cast. Despite these efforts, the series was cancelled after just three months on air.
