Evening Shade is a sitcom that aired on CBS from 1990 to 1994, starring Burt Reynolds as Wood Newton, a former Pittsburgh Steelers player who returns to his small Arkansas hometown to coach a struggling high school football team. The series celebrates small-town life and rural values, with each episode ending in a closing narration by Ossie Davis that concludes, "in a place called Evening Shade." The show's opening featured real footage from around Arkansas, including the iconic McClard's Bar-be-que in Hot Springs. Reynolds personally requested the Steelers connection as a nod to his own fandom. The finale brought unexpected chaos when Willie Nelson and Buzz Aldrin guest-starred as escaped convicts, culminating in a shoot-out inspired by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
