Two worlds and a wish: freedom.

Side by Side is a telenovela that won the International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela. Set in early 20th-century Rio de Janeiro, the series follows Isabel, daughter of a former slave and lover of the capoeira player Zé Maria, and Laura, a wealthy woman trapped in an unwanted marriage to Edgar. Despite their vastly different backgrounds and social standings, the two women form an unshakable bond. United by their desire for freedom in a deeply conservative society, Isabel and Laura navigate love, class conflict, and personal ambition as they challenge the rigid constraints placed upon them. Their friendship becomes the anchor through which both seek to forge their own paths.
