Thursday Theatre is a British television anthology series that aired on the BBC from 1964 to 1965. The series comprised twenty-three episodes, each running between 75 and 95 minutes, featuring adaptations of classic literary works. Notable episodes included T.S. Eliot's play The Cocktail Party and Henry James's novel The Wings of the Dove. The productions brought celebrated stage and prose works to the small screen during a pivotal era of British television drama. Like many programmes from this period, Thursday Theatre suffered significant archival losses; thirteen of the twenty-three episodes are believed lost, and one survives only in incomplete form. The series remains a testament to the BBC's commitment to adapting prestigious literature for television audiences.
