Zorro: La espada y la rosa(2007)
Zorro: La espada y la rosa is a Spanish telenovela that reimagines Johnston McCulley's legendary character. Don Diego de la Vega, born in the 1790s to a Spanish nobleman and a Native American warrior mother, returns to his family's California hacienda after training in swordsmanship and acrobatics in Spain. By day he poses as a refined aristocrat; by night he becomes Zorro, a masked vigilante fighting imperial oppression alongside a secret society called the Knights of the Broken Thorn. When the newly appointed governor Fernando Sánchez de Moncada arrives in Los Angeles with his daughters—the beautiful widow Esmeralda and her sister Mariángel—Diego finds himself drawn to Esmeralda. As their romance deepens, long-buried secrets emerge: mysteries surrounding Esmeralda's missing mother and the identity of a man whose crimes shaped Diego's destiny. Their discoveries threaten to unravel the Spanish Empire itself.
