Les Belles Histoires des pays d'en haut is a Canadian television drama that aired on Radio-Canada from 1956 to 1970, becoming one of the longest-running programs in Canadian TV history. Based on Claude-Henri Grignon's 1933 novel Un Homme et son péché and set in 1880s Quebec, the series follows the troubled marriage between Séraphin Poudrier, a wealthy but miserly village mayor, and Donalda, a young woman forced into wedlock to settle her family's debt. Despite her arranged fate, Donalda harbors feelings for Alexis Labranche, her true love. Starring Jean-Pierre Masson and Andrée Champagne, the show produced 81 episodes over 14 years and stands as one of the first influential téléromans in Canadian broadcasting history.
