The Thaw(2013)
The Thaw is a Soviet-era drama set in 1961 Moscow, where cameraman Viktor Khrustalyov faces suspicion in the death of his friend, screenwriter Kostya Parshin, who died by suicide. Desperate to clear his name and pursue his own ambitions, Viktor must first complete a comedy film to earn permission to make "Shards," an adaptation of Parshin's final screenplay. He recruits young director Yegor Myachin as a trainee on the comedy production under veteran director Krivitsky. Tensions mount when both Viktor's ex-wife Inga and his current lover Maryana join the cast—and Yegor develops feelings for Maryana as well. The series explores ambition, grief, and artistic compromise amid Cold War constraints, blending personal drama with the pressures of Soviet filmmaking.
