The Scales of Justice(1962)

The Scales of Justice is a British series of thirteen crime featurettes made between 1962 and 1967 at Merton Park Studios in London. Each standalone episode dramatizes real criminal cases, introduced by criminologist Edgar Lustgarten, whose authoritative narration grounds the stories in factual detail. The first nine films were shot in black and white, with the final four in colour. Named after the symbolic scales held by the statue of Justice above London's Old Bailey courthouse, the series captures the procedural and moral weight of the British legal system during the 1960s. The finale, Payment in Kind, marked Merton Park's last production, making it a significant endpoint for the studio's long history of crime drama.
