The Ginger Tree(1989)

The Ginger Tree is a historical drama following a young Scottish woman who travels to Manchuria in 1903 to marry a diplomat. Thrust into a war zone and disillusioned with her husband, she falls in love with a married Japanese nobleman, Count Kentaro Kurihama, and bears his child. As she builds a life within Japanese society, she confronts the dual prejudices of being both a foreigner and a woman in early 20th-century Asia. The series traces her journey through cultural displacement, forbidden romance, and the personal cost of defying convention in a time and place where such choices carried profound consequences.
