Whistleblower(2008)

Whistleblower is a two-part Irish drama based on the true story of Michael Neary, a retired obstetrician at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda who performed an extraordinary number of caesarean hysterectomies over 25 years. While the average consultant carries out five or six such procedures in an entire career, Neary conducted 188, many on young women with minimal prior pregnancies. The series follows a courageous midwife as she navigates the professional and personal costs of exposing his irregular practices. This IFTA-winning RTÉ production examines the institutional resistance and obstacles faced by those who dare to speak out against medical misconduct, and the lasting impact on the women affected. Directed by Dermot Boyd and written by Rob Heyland, Whistleblower shines a light on a scandal that prompted renewed calls for justice and compensation.
